Atlanta GA: In the effort to help support the momentum towards green building occuring in the southern part of the US, The German American Chamber of Commerce produced a series of Smart Building Symposiums.  As the program reads, " "To inspire the next generation of architects, engineers, urban planners and construction managers, the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern US, Inc. (GACC South) is organizing the Energy Efficiency Innovation Seminars: Sustainable Architecture & Urban Planning series at four Southern universities. A select group of leading German companies and industry leaders from the field of architecture and urban planning will present their latest technology and projects incorporating innovative, energy efficient solutions."

PHAUS Executive Director Mark A. Miller represented the alliance and the Passive Building Movement this month at the Southern Polytechnical State University in Atlanta.  Mark spoke on the history and principles of Passive Building as well as the role of PHIUS in developing the movement in North America and the Alliance's role in continuing to support that momentum.  The participation furthers a fruitful partnership between GACC and PHAUS which started with the collaborations in hosting their Das Haus traveling passive house exhibit in Chicago and Denver.

Mark presented along with Carl Mayer of Vis Solis a large scale PV system program equiping large commercial buildings with panels on a lease/investment concept (think Walmart and Walgreens) and Jorg C. Thone or Formactiv.  Jorg is a German architect living in New York who worked on winning solar decathlon projects, as well as collaborated on the recently featured Empowerhouse in DC.  The Symposium moves to Houston this week where alliance member Shelly Pottorf will present on the alliance's behalf.
